Micropub located in a former shop. The pub has a couple of parts. Entering on the right-hand side, you find a fairly tight bar area with a few chairs against one wall and a bench alongside the window. There are no tables, just shelves to place your beer behind the chairs/bench, or you can use the bar itself. This area was quite busy when I arrived but a couple of people left whilst I was being served, allowing me to plonk my back side down on one of the benches. I was soon engaged in conversation with the friendly locals and landlady.
The bar itself is a thick slab of wood balanced on 3 large casks. Beers are listed on a board to the side of the bar with ciders also listed separately behind the bar. Both are dispensed from a cool room.
I did not get to explore the left-hand room properly. However, I did notice that it was a bit more spacious and conventional, with tables available.
The 3 cask ales were Salcombe Shingle Bay & Lifesaver & Nethergate Old Growler. Ciders were Farmer Jim's Medium, Copper Top & Farmyard Fruits, Hunt's Hazy Dazy, Winkleigh Sam's Traditional Medium & Cloudy Crush & Sandford Orchards Devon Red & Devon Scrumpy. My choice was the Lifesaver, which I'd hoped to have in the Maritime Inn, Plymouth the night before but found it having run out.
This is a lovely little micropub where getting into conversation comes very easy. Having been to the Bull's Head in 2020 and having found it fairly average, I'm sure this is the best pub in Callington.
